Bike test

It's big, it's comfy, and it's amazing: the BMW K1200LT

K1200LT

Wow! That's the first reaction when you see that motorcycle. This is BIG , second reaction before you get on it. This is very comfortable , third reaction, when you sit on it. Piece of cake! fourth reaction once you drive it.

We knew that we would ride in comfort and safety on that huge bike but as much as we were concerned when we assessed its size as much we found it dead easy to use. It takes a few seconds to feel good on-board and to start testing the various accessories (heating handles, heating saddle, adjustable screen, stereo (option) etc...).

Amazingly, as long as you keep in mind that with two people on it the whole bike weights more than 500 kg (387 kg the bike alone), you can have a nice and dynamic ridding and stick with your friends on faster looking bikes with one difference: you will look as you would have ridden 5 minutes, after a whole day on the saddle: fresh and happy and the same stands for your passenger!

Of course the best place to fully enjoy the K1200LT is one large roads and even highways (shame on you) where you will be able to chat with your passenger, without a communication system, thanks to the large adjustable screen, at speeds that are illegal in most European countries.

Another good surprise: with its four cylinders engine and lots of grunt at low revs the fuel consumption stays in the 6 to 6.5l/100km.

From a more practical view the three integrated luggage pieces (top box and panniers) allow you to carry quite a lot of stuff from the lady's vanity (she won't need a mirror as that one is integrated in the top box) to your favorite running shoes. Total volume is: 120 L.

Oh by the way, there is also a rear gear and an electric central stand!

For your next Unicorn Adventures tour ask for a K1200LT!

Cultural drops

Parmesan Story

Historical evidence shows that already in 1200-1300, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese had reached its perfect typicality that has remained unchanged until the present day.

Part of the process allowing reaching such a unique taste is due to the milk and therefore to the specific soil, the breeding farms and the expertise of local farmers and cheese producers. Traditionally, cows have to be fed only on grass or hay, producing grass fed beef. Only natural whey culture is (allegedly) allowed as a starter, together with calf rennet. The only additive allowed is salt ( Wikipedia).

Today like in the past, cheese masters continue in their effort and in their risk by sincerely and proudly persisting in making their cheese with solely milk, rennet, fire and art, and in abiding by the rigorous centuries-old methods and application of the technique that is the result of special vocations and matured experiences , what a mouth watering explanation. And by the way, « dressing pasta with Parmigiano is an ancient tradition, as stated in the remote 16th century by Salimbene Friar in his "Chronicles" ». Parmigiano-Reggiano can also be served with fresh eggs and pears.

Cheese is rediscovered also today as a conclusion to a meal or as a gourmet dessert when combined with fruits (pears, grapes, but also apples, peaches, walnuts, figs, kiwis, etc.).

Gypsies meeting

Two of our tours ride through the town of « Les Saintes Maries de la mer », one (Camargue and Provence Tour) even over-nights there. That very small coastal town is well known in Europe for its gypsies meeting end of May, more precisely on May 24th, every year, for a couple of days of party and meetings. At that time from a couple of hundred inhabitants the town grows to more that 30.000 people, most being gypsies from all over Europe.

The town's name comes from Ste Marie Jacobé and Ste Marie Salomé, both being kicked out of

Palestine after Christ's death, and protectors of the town. The gypsies pay their respects to both Maries but also to the black gypsy, "Sara-la-Kâli",  who, even though her origins are unclear, is said to have saved both Saintes maries from drowning when their boat sunk as they arrived on the village's beach. But the gypsies consider her as their protector.

On the 24th the procession starts with a mass, during which Jacobé and Salomé s relics are exposed, before the statue of Sara, covered with jewels and her colorful dresses, is carried around by thousands of gypsies touching and kissing her, while Guardians on their Camargue horses open the way.

The day after two more masses takes place and Jacobé and Salomé's statues are carried to the beach to recall their arrival by sea.

During those two days a lot of happiness, songs and fun expand all around the town.

You will notice that the Camargue and Provence Tour doesn't take place during those two days, for obvious safety reasons and respect.

Ladies News

Aromatherapy

As you may know new sciences and methods to feel better, enjoy a different life style and take us away from our stressful daily life are more and more marketed. Among them one can find the aromatherapy, which helps you through scents.

Even though no one ever considered, this is a mistake, motorcycle riding as a healing science it is a great way to get rid of daily problems. Once someone called motorcycle riding the Lazy Man Zen , because to properly ride you need to focus on your riding and nothing else, is that all? I don't thinks so and would like to add the smells you can find on great rides.

The smell of pine trees in the Alps, or the one of the Corsican maquis, a mix of heath, myrtle, and many other flowers, the lavender in Provence, the salty smell of the sea in Camargue and many more perfumes will keep your nose active while riding on our tours!

Enjoy your ride!

The Techie Tricks and Tips

This time it's enough! Mosquitoes; they are small, noisy, and they just like having dinner on you! But they do also nicely repaint your front fairing as well as your screen and helmet. The more blood they sucked the bigger the splat is.

To avoid damaging the paint or scratching the screen or helmet while cleaning, get a towel wet, drop it on the mosquito painted parts, leave it there for a few minutes, wipe it away ... its clean!
