Events

BMW Biker Meeting

From July 1st to July 3rd Garmisch Partenkirchen (Germany – Bavaria) gets invaded by an army of 30.000 bikers!

That lovely little Bavarian town at the foot of the highest German peak (Zugspitze, 2.962m above sea level) experienced again what being a BMW biker is all about!

Riders from over 45 countries joined the meeting, some riding absolutely crazy distances. The weather? A bit rainy but does it really count?

The Unicorn Adventures team was there to meet bikers, friends and potential partners, but also…to have fun!

Enjoy the exhibitions, the parties, the beer and of course….the 900 km return trip over the great German Alps roads. That was a nice test for one of our R1200RT (see test on section 3).

Will we be back next year?
For sure!

Opening of our French Riviera office

Harbour

Unicorn Adventures is the South Europe Motorcycle tours expert!

Why? Because our marketing manager developing our tours for you has been living in the south part of France (right in the middle of the best roads ever made for biking (Alps, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia etc…) for ages and tested many great twisty roads. To make sure we go on developing fantastic rides we will base him right were the tours will start: on the French Riviera! Poor guy! What one has to do for the job!
And you will be lucky too as all our tours for 2006 will start from there! You may want to book some more time to enjoy the sea or some of the great events taking place there (see section 4)

Unicorn Adventures tour tips

How will our 2006 tours look like?

2006 will be a year focused on southern France, from the French Riviera to the Spanish border and Northern Italy.

Cassis

We will offer you 6 tours covering the Alps, the Mediterranean coast, an island, the Provence, the Camargue, the Languedoc, and many more places.

The tours will take place in average four times a year for each of them and some times more for some; make sure you get the one you like at the time you will be over on the French Riviera.

Riding in average 200 to 300km a day it will leave us plenty of time to visit amazing villages, fantastic sceneries, enjoy good food for those into gastronomy and have plenty of spare time for many more activities.

Ordering?
How?

In August our ordering system will be in place allowing you to select your tour, date, accommodation type and motorcycle.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions and don’t forget to send us all required information to validate your booking.

Unicorn Adventures Ltd will only take bookings paid by wire transfer for a starter. Due to the price of a tour this guarantees that your money is not lost on the Internet or that you have to fight against your fear of seeing your credit card number used by some other people.
But for those trusting the Web we will soon provide a credit card payment interface.

Bike test

Ever tried the BMW R1200T?

R1200RT

Some of our friends call it a Vanity Case on
Wheels!

Well definitely with its trendy colours (Black metallic, Gray metallic, and Red metallic) that bike looks classy. We selected the red one with a black lower fairing and black saddle (one can also mix silver and grey). For a year now it seems that BMW got bitten by a sort of “Taz”! The former R1150RT with the 1150 Boxer twin was already good but that 1200 has some sort of new “attitude”, more grunt! It was cool to ride a R1150RT but the R1200RT is fun! Yes a BMW can be fun! Surprising isn’t it?
Put the two side cases, the tank bag, the passenger and enjoy the face of some sport bike riders when you overtake them in the nice curves of one of our tours, smashing!
To that you add that you won’t stop riding until the tank is empty (will take you approx. 400km).

That big looking bike gives the feeling you will never be able to move it around, amazingly it drives like a bicycle, handy and easy, but keep in mind when you will optimistically approach too fast a sharp curve that it still weights close to 260kg! Luckily the new combined breaking system with its ABS does just what it has to save your pride.
For those who like buttons try to press the one managing the wind shield! First it looks to be overkill, after a few Kilometres you will ask yourself why that thing isn’t available on all bikes!
But there must be something wrong! Yes the price first of all, but it is a Beemer (quality, technology) sure, but then why include such a lousy tool box?For your next Unicorn Adventures tour ask for a R1200RT!

Cultural drops

Nice Jazz Festival

One of Europe’s major events. More than 500 musicians for more than 45.000 visitors. That great festival takes place in Nice every year in the second half of July. Why not take some time before your scheduled Unicorn Adventures tour? Keep a tune you like to put some jazzy rhythm on your driving. Or maybe you prefer the good vibes to help you prolongate your happiness?
For more information have a look at:

Corsican songs

While over in Corsica with on of our tours you may be lucky and join a Corsican Polyphony show. Polyphony (many voices) is made of a capella singing by a group of people from three to eight people. Traditional Corsican polyphony, following its revival in the 1970s, is now a central part of the expression of Corsican culture. Groups now form spontaneously, both for the pleasure of singing and frequently without a view to public performance. It is estimated that there are about 80 groups active in Corsica presently. You may be lucky and enjoy one of them singing in front of you. You will be touched by the deep feelings released and the sensitivity or those voices mixed together.

Tour de France

Even though there is a Motorcycle Tour de France (mainly in September/October) we will here talk about the two wheel machines without an engine in the middle, you know those you need to push on the pedals to get them moving.
The Tour de France climbs every year through the Alps some of the passes our “Alpine passes” tour will take.
When you will ride your motorcycle or one of ours keep in mind that those bicycle champions climb sometimes for more than 30 km with a climb rate of close to 7%, for example the Galibier (2.645m at sea level, 17,5 km climb at 6.9%, the climb starts at 1.414 m at sea level), one of the worst for them ,but for sure a very funny one for us!

Ladies News

Just back from a trip to Corsica (try the Corsica Tour!!) I have noticed that we women have more concerns than men about our sun tan and its quality. Have you noticed that whilst riding, in places like southern Europe, under the sun, you may end up with a red square on your face (the full face helmet mark), except for two white eye marks and a red chest? Never forget to get a tube of solar cream in your bag! And right before each ride get some on your face and chest!

Now you can ride happily in the sun, your helmet wide open, your jacket too, to get some fresh air in! As soon as you get off the bike you are ready to work on your favourite sun tan without looking like a lobster or, even worse, like a turkey (red face, red chest, big white eyes).

Enjoy your ride!
