Discovering the princely state of Rajasthan. |
Days
1-2: Arrival in Delhi at the Indira Gandhi International
Airport and transferred to a comfortable hotel in
the heart of the city. Day 2 : We start from the
western part of the state, The Great Indian Desert
"Thar desert" and take on the sandy lands of the
Shekawati region or the land of Shekhawat rulers
and discover its famous "fresco Havelis" or simply
painted palaces. The region is famously known as
"Open art gallery of Rajasthan". We take a good
ride to Alsisar that familiarizes us with the functioning
of the bike.
Day
3: We ride into deeper sandy landscapes towards
Bikaner. The road is good. Bikaner lies under the
sun, in the Thar Desert. As we visit its fortress
and its crowded streets, you will be fascinated
by its overwhelming liveliness.
Day
4: A long ride deeper into the Thar desert.
We are still welcomed by good roads. As we are in
the proximities of Phalodi, we would see a sign
of wildlife i.e. antelopes by the sides of the roads.
This rare feat of watching antelopes, deer roam
so freely is amazing, thanks to the Bishnoi tribe.
Day
5 : Surrounded by desert, the yellow city of
Jaisalmer stands imposingly and presents a striking
picture of its culture and riches of the yesteryears.
Being en route to the Middle East of Asia, the city
remained very prosperous until recent times. Present
day revenue for Jaisalmer largely depends on tourism.
We take sneak peek in the beautiful havelis and
the bustling streets before leaving for a short
bike ride to the Gadi Lake and the gardens and cenotaph
of Barabagh.
Day
6: An early morning start toward the Thar Desert.
We visit the jain temple of Amarsagar and the vestiges
of Loduvra, the ancient capital of the Jaisalmer
region. Then follows what you will remember as one
of your best motorcycle's experience: We head into
the heart of the Desert, on a sandy track among
the sand Dunes. To draw the maximum pleasure of
the desert and the sun set, we spend the night in
fully furnished camps.
Day
7: After a night in the desert, we ride back
to Jaisalmer taking a small road. After shower and
quick rest at the hotel, we start a long ride to
Jodhpur, The blue city of Brahmins (good roads).
Days
8-9: After learning the fascinating facts, catching
a glimpse of the life in Jodhpur and gape at its
historical Mehrangarh Fort, we head south to the
ancient Mewar realm. Day 9 : A short stop at Ranakpur
to visit its Jain temples that is as imposing as
cathedral, white as ivory. Taking the up and down
boulders and small hills, we reach the Venice of
East, "Udaipur" built around Pichola Lake. An ancient
capital of the Mewar region, Udaipur is one of the
highest cities from the sea level with dense forest
and rich greens.
Days
10-11: After paying due homage to the beauty
of Udaipur, we head to the city of Jojawar in the
north. We scale the Aravali hills to reach the wide
half desert plains of the Marwar region. Day 11
: We are moving to Pushkar, a small and very important
pilgrimage site for Hindus. Pushkar is the only
temple for Brahma (the Creator according to Hindu
mythology). Also Pushkar is famous for its annual
Camel fair; Pushkar is a museum in itself.
Day
12: Leaving Pushkar behind, we take good 4 lanes
road to the pink city, Jaipur, capital city of Rajasthan.
Jaipur is known for its palaces, its jewelers and
its liveliness but little do people know that it
is the first planned city of India built in 1727,
by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. One of the wealthiest
cities of Historic India, Jaipur, today is a beautiful
and a vibrant amalgam of modern times and ancient
Indian culture. From Camel rides to swanky cars,
multiplexes to boulevard shops, Jaipur truly gives
an introduction to the princely state of Rajasthan.
Days
13-14: A morning visit to Amber fort, a few
kilometers up north of Jaipur before taking smaller
roads to the countryside fort of Kesroli. Day 14
: The last day of the trip leads to fast and hustle
bustle of Gurgaon from the tranquil lanes of Rajasthan.
The last 25 miles (40 kilometers) are covered on
good 4 lane roads leading to Delhi. Transfer to
the hotel. Rest/shower at the hotel. Pick up and
farewells at Indira Gandhi International Airport
