Days
1-2-3-4: Beginning in Pucon, beautifully located
on the shores of Largo Villarrica and under the
dormant Volcan Villarrica, we cross into Argentina
and hit the dirt roads of the famous Seven Lakes
Drive before reaching Bariloche, at the edge of
the 100k long glacial lake of Nahuel Huapi. We spend
2 nights here exploring this magnificent region
either on foot or by bike, your choice.
Days
5-6-7: We ride south onto Esquel and onto the
endless Patagonia Steppe. We spend a night in Esquel
before riding further south onto Perito Moreno.
Riding the Patagonian steppe is uninterrupted carefree
riding at its best.
Days
8-9-10: Turning east we ride across Argentina
where we reach Puerto Deseado and have a chance
to visit a sea lion and penguin colony. Further
south along the coast we overnight at San Julian,
a town previously visited by Magellan and Drake
to dispose of a few pesky mutineers. Travelling
south we ride into Rio Gallegos for a well earned
beer.
Days
11-12-13: Leaving Rio Gallegos we cross back
into Chile and cross by ferry to Tierra del Fuego
before stopping at a wonderfully small pub in the
equally small hamlet of San Sebastian. Next day
sees us cross back into Argentina and onto Ushuaia.
Two days will be spent exploring the southern most
city in the world visiting Lapatia National Park
where we ride the bikes to the very end of the road
“Fin del Mundo”, cruise the Beagle Channel and wander
the scenic downtown.
Days
14- 15-16-17: Heading north we ride the Ripio
(dirt roads) of Tierra del Fuego again crossing
into Chile and onto Punta Delgada where we stay
in a beautiful Estancia. We arrive via the scenic
Puerto Natales at the.sensational Torres Del Paine
Parque Nacional. This is Patagonia’s jewel in the
crown and the memories of the ride amongst the towering
3000m granite spires, glacial lakes and snow capped
peaks will stay with you forever. Two days are spent
exploring the park and the bikes are at your disposal.
Days
18-19: Returning to Argentina we ride north
reaching El Calafate by late afternoon. Spending
a full day here we will visit the magnificent Moreno
Glacier and watch as pieces of it crash into the
lake 60m below. A boat cruise is included enjoying
a whiskey on board with glacial ice while viewing
the glacier up close. Amazing.
Days
20-21: More Ripio (dirt tracks) as we ride out
of El Calafate for the half day run onto El Chalten
spectacularly set at the foot of the Fitzroy Range.
A day will be spent off the bikes to stretch your
legs in amongst the mountains.
Days
22-23: A big day on Ripio as we stay overnight
at a working Estancia before crossing again into
Chile to join up with the legendary Carratera Austral
stopping at Cochrane for the evening.
Days
24-25: Leaving Cochrane we ride around Lago
Cochrane and ride north through spectacular mountain
scenery toward Lago General Carrera getting wonderful
views of the Northern Inland Icefields as we ride
toward Coyhaique. Further on we ride through the
fern and southern beech forests of Parque Nacional
Queulat, stopping off to view the hanging glacier
of Ventisquero Colgate and Father Garcia waterfalls
and our overnight stay at Puyuhuapi.
Days
26-27-28-29: Crossing into Argentina again,
we stop overnight at the welsh village of Trevelin.
Moving on we ride north through the conifer, cypress
and cedar forest of Parque Nacional Los Alceres
before reaching Bariloche. Back on pavement we follow
the shores of Nahuel Huapi with an easy ride over
a mixture of dirt and pavement over the mountains
and once again into Chile to our final destination
of Pucon. An epic journey completed.
